For sale today is an early and extremely rare ovoid stoneware jug; decorated with a cobalt blue INCISED FISH, looks like a cod on the front. This decoration has outstanding cobalt blue for such an early piece. Looks like 1 gallon and stands 12” inches tall. Has a slight hint if slip dip up the sides at the base (see close-up photos).
Condition is as follows: it has two in the making chips on the lip which are glazed over and one small glaze chip on the very top to the right of the larger in the making chips, this small chip is from use. There are stones in the clay that look like they have iron in them, which caused in the making imperfections. The bottom has the same ferruginous type slip that is used on the inside of the jug. There are no other cracks, chips, or repairs (see photos)….Don’t let this rare piece go without a good home!!!..A great center piece for a Folk Art, Americana, Primitive or Stoneware collector….good luck with your bidding and thanks for looking…DON’T FORGET MY OTHER STONEWARE UP FOR SALE!!!
