Here is an EXCELLENT opportunity to acquire an ORIGINAL example of a RARE, hand-finished Vintage Timepiece produced in the very finest SWISS watchmaking traditions by a well regarded HISTORIC FIRM.
It is obviously very well crafted, equipped with a HIGH-GRADE movement (in STRONG RUNNING CONDITION) and housed in the original & beautifully Designed ART DECO Case, paved with Rhinestones & the ORIGINAL, ORNATE Pin!
Well balanced and proportioned, this WONDERFUL pendant timepiece measures about 63mm (2 1/2” tall), 33mm (over 1 ¼” wide), while remaining only 9mm (under 3/8" thick).
It is, indeed, a very Beautiful Pendant, Watch & Pin ensemble that would have been considered a fine piece in its day ~ VERY INTERESTING, UNUSUAL, TRULY DESIRABLE AND HIGHLY COLLECTABLE
When this piece was made it would have been considered one of the better quality timepieces of this type, produced during the mid 20th century featuring highly ARTISTIC design elements.
Produced the Historic Swiss ‘CRAWFORD’ Firm, and is a GENUINE IN-HOUSE Manufacture Piece ~ Not only Fully SIGNED, the Balance Cock has the Firm’s Registered (COC) Trademark.
This SPECIAL ELEGANT PIECE certainly represents the higher end of the finest quality (FULLY JEWELED) watchmaking and manufacturing of the times, and is comparable in quality to what the other top firms were producing in similar pieces during the period.
The High Quality, ORIGINAL Snap-On Back, Open Face Case, is QUALITY Stainless Steel, with UNIQUE ART DECO Accents. This wonderfully finished Case is still in quite good condition for the vintage throughout, and is still a beautiful object to see and hold; especially given its age. It has no major dents or problems, with only perhaps some very slight surface wear that is typical in such a Case that has been handled and carried; not to mention, survived for so many years.
The Case is obviously well designed, and is VERY SOLID (not at all flimsy) for such a piece. The front is the highlight of the piece, and is very intricate, with an ORNATE overall design. The ORIGINAL Case, Pin, and Link are all “paved” with Rhinestones, and it still shimmers beautifully in the light, to this day!
The design of the Case and Pin, are such that the piece was intended for PROFESSIONAL use. When worn, all a person had to do was glance down, and the correct time could be easily read (without having to turn the watch around). It certainly makes for a wonderful piece of JEWELRY, and with a peek, you can still read the time ~ BEAUTIFUL & FULLY FUNCTIONAL!!!
Overall, Very BEAUTIFUL, SPECIAL, Interesting and UNIQUE!
You should be able to get a good idea of the condition and quality of this Very SPECIAL Ensemble from the images below. It is difficult to photograph (it's so shiny), and any wavy lines or distortions/shadows you may see are from the camera/light reflections, and not actually on the Watch itself. I have tried to provide good images, including the front, back, and inside of the Watch.
The next WONDERFUL aspect of the Watch is that it still retains the ORIGINAL Signed Dial. The handcrafted, Silver Finished Metal Dial remains in pretty good condition with light ROSE Accents. It has NOT been refinished (which makes it even more desirable to collectors), and still has the original APPLIED & RAISED Hour Markers, which shine & gleam in the light! To top it off, are a wonderful (ORIGINAL) set of finely crafted Gold Hour & Minute Hands.
This ORIGINAL DIAL is SIGNED at center, “CRAWFORD”, and “SWISS MADE”, along the bottom edge, below the desirable subsidiary seconds dial ~ another Professional Grade Feature.
A Special and Very Interesting Dial - HIGHLY COLLECTABLE as the untouched Original!
The Finely Finished, IN-HOUSE, MANUFACTURE, Bridge Plate, High Quality NICKEL & FULLY JEWELED Movement with going barrel is ORIGINAL, and is obviously very well crafted.
Still in STRONG RUNNING condition, it is a true testament to the high degree of quality and craftsmanship that it is still fully operational after all these years! Although there are no guarantees on the timekeeping/accuracy/duration with such an antique timepiece, and I do not know when it was last serviced; it has been RUNNING VERY STRONG, (tested face up & face down on the desk) for a full winding, and KEEPING GOOD TIME TOO ! ! !
Therefore, even though I always recommend a fresh service for any timekeeper intended for regular use. Even as is, it is so CLEAN & CRISP, (and RUNS SO WELL throughout a full winding) it is very likely READY TO WIND AND WEAR ! ! !
I am offering this wonderful, highly collectable, Pendant WATCH with the ORNATE PIN, from the HISTORIC, Swiss CRAWFORD Watch Firm with a very low reserve! The Watch is stem wound & set by the finely textured crown.
The High Performance Movement is equipped with an excellent example and top execution of the High Grade, FULLY (17) JEWELED, high precision LEVER escapement. Complete with a Polished Steel club tooth escape wheel. The LEVER itself is of the high performance forked design, and carries JEWELED PALLET STONES.
The roller table supports a JEWELED, impulse/unlocking pin, and mates to a High Grade COMPENSATED BALANCE WHEEL and Balance Spring. This evenly pulsing hairspring is finely adjusted by a POLISHED STEEL regulator – a truly beautiful movement!
The movement is fully signed: “CRAWFORD WATCH Co.”, “SEVENTEEN 17 JEWELS” (which is High-Grade for such a timepiece), and “SWISS”.
At the time this piece was made, such Watches were machine made, but still designed and finished by hand - therefore, more rare and collectable – especially fine examples, from this period, with the ORIGINAL RUNNING (In-House) Movement, and housed in the ORIGINAL, SPECIALLY CRAFTED, ART DECO Accented Case, and with the Original SIGNED Dial, certainly a highly COLLECTABLE, BEAUTIFUL & FUNCTIONAL Piece.
It is also important to know that many Watches of this period are not signed at all, and merely carry a number on the plate, if anything. A signed piece of work is generally of the highest quality (telling everyone who made it, and where, so it must look and function well) and is also, therefore, more rare and collectable!
Ultimately, this is a very nice surviving example of a High Quality RARE Swiss Pendant Timepiece of the 20th Century. If you are a collector, have an interest in Vintage Watches, or functional items of the Period, this presents a GENUINE example, that not only looks great but has survived very well to this day. Here is a very good opportunity to add a BEAUTIFUL SURVIVOR, to your personal collection, or it would make a wonderful GIFT for someone very special, or even just to keep for the historical value and special craftsmanship.
