Antique Atwater-Kent Type E Lotus Speaker Housing
This is a huge item, with period paint and cloth. There are no scratches to the paint, but part of the speaker cloth seems to have come loose. The metal tag on the back identifies this and also gives a serial number. The colors in the picture are true. It is an odd shade of grey/brown, with gold striped cloth across the back.
In the 1920's Atwater-Kent was one of the leaders in the speaker industry. Their trademarked "lotus" design was kind of art deco, yet organic. They advertised heavily in magazines and newspapers.
Here is some information I found on a website about this type:
"The E series speakers are high impedance types normally used with battery receivers such as the AK model 20. This type of set does not have an output transformer, so the speaker wiring is the same as a pair of headphones, usually with two standard RCA pin jacks on their ends. Speakers and headphones were optional accessories during this era, and just about any brand could be used with almost any radio."
