Rare and important, marriage carved oak, chest/coffer, dated and intialed 1701. Below the the planked top is a carved freize of semi-circular form, below this are three inset panels, to the center is a carved lozenge shape containing the date; 1701 and the initials I F, each panel has an acorn cap with leaves in each corner. The panels that flank the center each have carved architectural arches and columns, to the center is an organic style carving, the, chest is paneled at each end and stands on stile feet, the top is joined with the original hand-forged iron strap handles and the original handmade lock; 48" wide x 26" tall x 22" deep . A rare, antique, carved oak dower chest, dated 1701.
