This is a big, 17 inches (432 mm) tall brass microscope known as the Large No 2 model by Charles Baker. There is a good description of a similar microscope at the ars machina. com site http://www.arsmachina.com/bakerjun99.htm. This microscope is in good optical and mechanical condition and reasonable cosmetic condition excepting some loss of lacquers. The foot is engraved Baker 244 High Holborn London. Coarse focusing is by rack & pinion, fine by millhead and lever to the nosepiece. Both work well. The stage is fitted with a fully functional mechanical stage. The underside of the stage has slides to take the substage accessories mounted on plates with pins, one is fitted with a circle of stops, the other with a polariser but there is no prism. The big 3 inch (75 mm) plano-concave mirror is good with only slight blemishes at the edges. There are two unmarked low power objectives with cans and two unmarked eyepieces. Accessories include stage forceps, stage bullseye, analyser with Nicol prism, and live box. The good fitted mahogany case has a campaign carrying handle, a lock and key (not working), and a slide/accessory drawer with campaign handle. It measures 13 x 8.5 x 8.5 (330 x 220 x 220 mm) and weighs 8 kg. Shipping & handling will be £13 for a two day UK delivery; overseas more. No reserve.
