This auction is for a used Heathkit Capacitor Checker that needs repair (explained below). It is model IT-11. It measures about 6-1/2" wide x 10" tall x 5" deep. It is made mostly of metal with hard plastic control knobs. The cord is about 70" long and will plug to a standard 110/120v wall socket. It has an on/off switch and various controls. It has six screw type ports at the bottom front to accept some sort of wires. This came from an estate with a large collection of vintage radios, so I assume it is for testing radio's and I don't know if it will also check televisions. The pictures show all that is included.
This capacitor checker is in good used cosmetic condition, but has an issue with a smoking fuse, and needs repair. I have no means or knowledge of how to test fully, but I did test for operation as best as I could. When I switched on, the light at the top center slowly turned green. The main control at the top can be adjusted to open and close a small portion of the green light at the bottom. After being on for a couple of minutes light smoke began to come from the top. I removed the back panel and powered again and the smoke was coming from (what I think is) a paper type fuse on the right side nearest the front panel. After unplugging, the smoking fuse was hot and the other fuse nearest the back was not. While in operation, all 3 tubes were lit. The pictures that show the inside of the unit were taken during operation (the last picture should show the fuse smoking). I tested on three different occasions over two days, and it always powers up and then the fuse starts smoking. I have never left on for over 4 or 5 minutes at a time. This capacitor has some light scratches and scuffs, but it looks good. The lever on the left lower side is missing the knob. The plastic pointer on the main control is dirty on the underside. There is no other obvious damage. I do not know the age of this, so it may not be from the era that I have listed.
I am not familiar with this item and cannot fully test, so please ask questions. Under these circumstances, if not satisfied, I will refund purchase price but not any shipping costs.
I will list other radio testers soon (Eico, Senco, RCA, Heathkit, Mercury). Click " view sellers other items" if interested. I will combine shipping if practical.
