Set of Wheeler Self-Powered Phones -- Two Phones.
Up for bids is a post WW-II set of Wheeler Self-Powered Telephones. These phones were popular on farms and for use at home between the basement and kitchen, or kitchen and barn, or basement, kitchen and barn and so forth. They are base don the same type principle of telephony used on aircraft carriers, frigates, battle ships and on Air Force and Army large aircraft. Basically these phones are what they say they are -- self-powered. That means no central or local batteries are involved. Just a pair of wires between the handsets, usually wired in parallel. Sound is converted into kinetic, electronic energy and transmitted through the wires back and forth between receivers. The wall unit has the gong unit in it, and the desk model does not have the gong unit and I do not know what happened to it. I am throwing in a parts handset with the set too. They are untested and sold as "barn fresh" which is how I got 'em. The wall unit has a crack that was repaired. I have a set that I got a long time ago that's still new in the box and never used, I also got several batches of these years ago from a farmer in the far Western part of my county. He had wires criss-crossed from his barn to the field to his kitchen and between the bedroom and the kitchen, etc. My recollection is he used a separate pair of wires to power magneto ringers.
