Item: 1930s/40s era ANTIQUE GRANDMOTHER'S FLOWER GARDEN patchwork quilt -- fussy-cut with all matching fabrics, and lots of them! Tiny intricate hexagon pieces making up the garden, fabulous CHEDDAR print centers, and a creamy white garden path. Truly FABULOUS, ELEGANT, and true piece of Texas textile-art! Beautiful SWEET colors and precise handwork TO-DIE-FOR -- this one needs to be displayed and CELEBRATED, and would be perfect to impress your guests this fall/holiday season. Real oldies like this are getting few and far between -- this is no replica or reproduction -- this is the GENUINE ARTICLE, and GUARANTEED you won't be disappointed -- it is truly AMAZING, and fully capable of being the SUPER-STAR in any fine quilt collection!
Materials: All old 100% cottons -- some nice-quality fabrics probably purchased just for the making of this quilt, and some depression-era feedsacks that were carefully saved up over time and kept in perfect condition -- lovely scalloped edges that are completely hand-done with teeny stitches -- backed in the same solid creamy cotton used on the front of quilt.
Batting: Little or no batting -- if it's there, it's such a fine layer that you really can't even tell -- razor thin and elegant -- lays flat and even -- this was obviously made as a family heirloom showpiece quilt.
Handwork: Totally hand-pieced and hand-quilted "in the ditch" around each little hexagon at 10-12 teeny stitches per inch -- some of the smallest and best stitching handwork that I've ever seen -- this skilled quilter was really showing off her needlework skills, and must have put a zillion hours into this one along with lots of talent and love -- this quilt has an amazing presence and a totally elegant personality -- anyone that put this much time and love into a quilt was surely going to pass it down to future generations.
Size: 78" x 80"
Condition: Absolutely excellent condition for a 70+ year old quilt -- clean, strong and sturdy -- light wear/gentle usage -- appears to have been stored correctly for many, many years and probably only used when company came -- colors crisp and vibrant -- everything intact -- edges in good shape -- there are a few tiny age spots and some light surface soil (which shows more on the backside) that are absolutely insignificant in the overall scheme of things and probably occurred during storage -- nothing else to report, and no apologies here -- it has EXCEPTIONAL display value, as you can see in the pics -- ready for your bed, stacked in your quilt cabinet, hung over the door of your jelly cupboard -- or hang immediately as SPECTACULAR wall-art -- this is the ultimate GRANDMOTHER'S FLOWER GARDEN quilt...a CELEBRATION of TEXTILE ART...and truly a SHOW-STOPPER!
