Item: 1940s-era antique AFRICAN-AMERICAN Crazy Quilt, constructed in an improvisational block pattern where the old silk ties form an Egyptian Fan or Rising Sun pattern -- an intense VISUAL pattern with tons of jewel-toned COLORS and striking images -- much time, talent and thought went into this old Southern BEAUTY -- SHOW-STOPPING graphics that definitely resulted in instant FOLK-ART -- fully capable of being a SUPER-STAR in any great AAFA collection, and one that should be displayed and CELEBRATED as often as possible -- don't miss it!
Materials: All old silky, satiny men's vintage ties -- cut and placed for FULL IMPACT -- a true SCRAP quilt, using only men's accessory neck-ties -- nicely sewn together at the edges with blanket-stitches and backed in a beautiful midnight-blue polished cotton -- everything about this quilt was well-done -- straight edges.
Batting: Little or no batting -- razor thin and elegant, lays flat and even -- a true family heirloom SHOWPIECE quilt.
Handwork: Totally hand-pieced and hand-embellished on each block is gorgeous turkey-track stitching.
Size: 48" x 76", nice small size perfect for decor/display.
Condition: Absolutely excellent near-mint condition for a 60-year old quilt -- clean, strong and sturdy -- appear unused -- made and immediately stored away for "good", or only to bring out at very special occasions -- colors as crisp and vibrant as the day it was completed -- everything intact, except for a few of the tiniest moth-bites which is not unusual and obviously happened during storage -- completely insignificant in the overall picture -- edges in great shape -- clean as a whistle -- nothing else to report, and no apologies here -- has EXCEPTIONAL display value, as you can see in the pics -- this quilt is totally ENCHANTING -- if you've ever wanted to own an old silk CRAZY QUILT, this is the one!! -- well-worth your investment, and a MARVELOUS addition to your African-American FOLK-ART collection!
