This buy it now is for this amazingly wonderful, museum quality 1820-1830s textile~*~
~*~This is the second and last panel of this wonderful textile~*~*~
This textile is extraordinary and very rare indeed. This is an early fabric, rare in itself to find, let alone in such amazing quality and quantity! This textile was once a ruffle that was hand stitched along a quilt as a bed ruffle to an American made quilt. It is difficult to say where this textile was printed as European textiles were imported to the USA around this time in great numbers. The textile I date to c 1820-1830 and the quilt was dated 1840. This textile has a light ground, medium spacing and wonderfully amazing picotage in the print. The colors are produced from madder dyes and the particularly interesting part of this textile is that the fern frond was once hand colored ( technique called "pencilled") using a combination of early dyes to produce green ( before 1875 green was a difficult color to use for fabrics as they were very fugitive in the early days) often a combination of dyes of indigo usually woad ( or weld or pastel) and a yellow was used in a technique called "double process", was used to get this green tone needed for fabric dying. This textile once was hand colored in the fern fronds with just such combination of dyes to produce green. ( Only the blue tone remains in places along the fern frond, Simply magical!) In 1807 someone at the Jouy factory in France, produced green by printing the fabric with a mixture of china blue (the insoluble form of indigo) and tin oxide (a mordant, or fixative); then the fabric was dyed yellow. The yellow adhered only to the areas treated with the tin oxide mordant, and a green image was the result. The printing quality was so good, for years people thought they had invented a single-process green! The pattern produced on this textile is so wonderful, and would be just as fashionable today, as it was 200 years ago! ~*~
This fabric is a light weight, 100% cotton textile. Museum quality. The top of this textile is gathered and a thin cotton cord is inserted so that it would be simply wonderful as a pelmet or under the sink ruffle, if one didn't want to just use the fabric for multiple projects~*~ This textile is all hand stitched together in panels now, and I am selling this textile per panel. Please see the details below.
I have photographed the textile in long length and I am selling this piece in sections~*~
Each purchase is for a length of this textile that measures 28.7 inches long and 26.4 inches wide (73cm by 67cm). The measurements of the width are taken from the bottom of the panel where there is no gather. Should you require further lengths, simply change the quantity button. All lengths purchased are left as one long piece and each length is hand stitched to the other length. ( I have many further lengths of this textile should one require more, please contact me)
This piece is in amazingly wonderful original condition. Each length purchased is in original condition with ligth storge marks that will wash. There are no holes in this textile. The quilt was stored very well wrapped in cotton . ~*~ Please email me with any questions. ~*~
